From the onset, the Samsung Galaxy A series was targeted the “mid-range cadre”.

But last year, the company diversified the series to include the budget segment as well, the mid-range like the Galaxy A10, A20 and even the Samsung Galaxy A71 5G.

Samsung streamlined its strategy here, and the Galaxy A series now caters to both the budget and mid-range categories.

Design and Display

It offers vibrant design with a few tweaks from it’s predecessor, Galaxy A70 and a replica of it’s sibling standard Samsung Galaxy A71.

Also on the rear is a rectangular box arranged same as the Galaxy S20 series, housing a quad camera module and at the bottom lies the brand name.

Upfront you have got a 6.7-inch Full HD+ super AMOLED Plus Infinity-O display offering more vibrant colours and a punch-hole camera in the top-middle.

The Galaxy A71 measures 163.6 x 76 x 7.7mm, weighs 179g with a screen resolution of 1080 x 2400 and screen density of 393 PPI.

The smartphone comes in several colour variants, which are Prism Cube Black, Prism Cube Sliver and Prism Cube Blue.

The Cameras

The cameras are identical to that on the Samsung Galaxy A71. It same quad-camera and selfie setup are exactly the same.

The Galaxy A71 5G on the rear has a 64MP primary lens that’s joined by a 12MP wide-angle shooter, plus 5MP macro lens, and lastly a 5MP portrait lens. Aside that the 64MP camera, the lens arrangement is similar to the Galaxy A51.

This configuration can shoot a 4k videos at 30 frames per second, 1080p videos up to 960 frames per second for slow-mo.

The front-facing camera is gifted by a single 32MP selfie camera which can shoot 1080p videos at 30 frame per second.

Hardware and Software

The company made a shift from featuring a Snapdragon 730 processor to featuring an Exynos 980 processor, which is also a mid-range processor.

It’s graphics unit include Mali-G76 MP5 coupled with a 6GB / 8GB RAM.

It runs Samsung One UI 2.0 user interface on top of the Android 10.0 operating system.


128GB of UFS 2.1 internal storage but also offer a microSD slot which supports cards up to 512GB in size.


The Samsung Galaxy A71 5G features a 3.5mm headphone jack, dual SIM, a USB Type-C port, Bluetooth 5.0 LE, Dual-band Wi-Fi, A-GPS, NFC and 5G connectivity.


The company squeezed a sizable 4,500mAh battery into the smartphone which is bigger than the battery of both Galaxy S10 Plus (4,100mAh) and Galaxy Note 10 Plus (4,300mAh).

Also in the box is 25W fast charger which will get your phone juiced up to 100% in 80 minutes or a 50% charge from flat in just 30 minutes.

Samsung Galaxy A71 5G Price And Availability

Samsung Galaxy A71 5G price starts around $600, which is about 220,200 Naira in Nigeria, 63,540 Kenyan Shillings in Kenya and 3,504 Ghana Cedi in Ghana.

The Samsung Galaxy A71 5G was announced in early April and is expected to go on sale later in April.


With a beautiful display, fast performance, excellent cameras, crazy long battery life and equally fast charging, on top a latest software make the Galaxy A71 a well rounded upper mid-range smartphone that you can’t go wrong with.

The fingerprint scanner fall short but the face recognition was up to par.

In terms of performance, the iPhone SE stands out when it comes to sheer value for $399, using the same A13 Bionic chipset as the iPhone 11 series.

The Pixel 4a is also slated to make its debut shortly, as Google’s mid-range phone due to its camera prowess.

There’s no wireless charging neither is it water resistant here, but if you’re looking for a reliable phone for day-to-day use, the Galaxy A71 5G is a great choice in 2020.
