After making a statement in 2019 with the launch of blockbuster phones, realme has announced yet another banger, the Realme X2.

The smartphone which is an elder sibling of the Realme XT, aims directly at Redmi Note 8 Pro, which is one of the most powerful current-gen smartphones that you can buy for less than Rs. 20,000.

The budget smartphone seems to be a pretty decent upgrade of the realme XT on paper with more powerful processor, quicker charging, and a higher-resolution front camera.

Design and Display

The Realme X2 retains the same design DNA as the Realme XT, with a gorilla glass 5 build at the front and back with a glossy polycarbonate frame and all ports located at the bottom.

On the rear is a curved glass back with ‘hyperbolic’ pattern that glisten when light hits it as it moves just like the XT with a camera bump housing four cameras, an LED flash at the top left and the brand name at the bottom left.

On the front is a 6.4-inch full-HD+ Super AMOLED display, a screen resolution of 1080 x 2340 with an under-display fingerprint sensor and a water drop notch.

The smartphone measures 158.7 x 75.2 x 8.6 mm in dimensions, weighs 182 grams and a pixel density of 403 PPI.

Other features includes in-display fingerprint scanner, face unlock, Gorilla Glass 5 scratch protection

It comes in Pearl Blue and Pearl Blue colour options,

Camera

On the rear is a quad-camera setup featuring Samsung GW1 64MP primary shooter which captures oversampled 16MP photos by default which is paired by 8MP wide-angle camera; a 2MP depth sensor; and a 2MP macro camera.

The smartphone supports real-time bokeh, EIS, HDR, super night mode, captures 4k video recording at 30fps, 1080p at 60fps, and 720p video shooting and 960fps slow-motion video recording.

On the front is a 32MP front-facing camera which is similar to the Realme XT but in Portrait mode, the images are pixel-binned down to 8-megapixels.

It can capture in HD and panorama as we as shoot 1080p selfie videos.

Hardware and Software

The star of this smartphone is it mid-range processor, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G SoC, which also powers the Samsung Galaxy A80 and the Oppo Reno 2.

The Snapdragon 730G features eight Kryo 470 cores and an Adreno 618 GPU, for seamless performance.

Just like the X2 Pro, it runs on it ColorOS 6.1 UI on top Android 9.0 (Pie) which is now upgradable to the latest Android 10 OS. For gaming, it is packaged with GameBoost 2.0 and Game Assistant feature to allow for fluid, optimized experience. Users can also switch between Wi-Fi and cellular data.

Storage

It comes with 4/6/8 GB of LPDDR4x RAM and an in built storage 64/128 GB of UFS 2.1 storage which can also be expanded via microSD card

Connectivity

It has support a dual Nano SIM 4G LTE with dual Wi-Fi function to connect two Wi-Fi networks simultaneously. Also available is the Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, NFC, USB-C, and 3.5mm headphone jack on the device.

Battery

The Realme X2 smartphone is fuelled by a non-removable battery capacity of 4,000mAh that comes with support for VOOC 4.0 Flash Charge technology that enables 30W charging. The company claims it will take 60 minutes to get 95 percent charge and just 75 minutes to completely juice the battery.

Realme X2 Price and Availability

The price of Realme X2 sells at $240 for 4GB RAM + 64GB ROM, while the 6GB RAM + 128GB ROM cost $268 and the 8GB RAM + 128GB ROM goes for $282.

In Nigeria, the Realme X2 sells at 95,000 Naira, while, in Ghana, it cost 1,400 Ghs and 26,000 Ksh in Kenya.

Verdict

The realme x2 is a solid option considering superb build, it price and got same software as the X2 Pro plus, some nice hardware upgrades and a solid alternative to the Xiaomi mid-range lineup.

It also offers a good display, strong battery life with very fast charging, a capable set of cameras, and very good gaming performance. Even if you aren’t an ardent gamer, the Realme X2 is currently the best Realme phone you should consider under $240.
