Few months after, Huawei quietly launched the Huawei P30 Lite New Edition which is a re-release so to speak of the P30 Lite launched in early 2019.

From the name, the 2020 edition is a slight upgrade of the 2019 P30 Lite model.

The difference between the New Edition and the 2019 Edition is the in-built storage, more RAM, Selfie camera resolution, NFC, UFS storage technology and lastly an additional colourway option.

Design and Display

The design and build of Huawei’s P30 Lite New Edition is looks essentially the same as the 2019 edition parading it sleek, shiny and slippery accent with glass build and plastic frame.

On the rear is a slim curved 3D glass crafted for easy grip with an attention-grabbing iridescent gradient, a trademark the company is known for, giving it a rich flagship-esque in-hand feel.

A fairly large tri-lens camera bump with slightly sharp edges makes the phone rock like wonky table when placed on a flat surface.

The cost cutting comes in the form of panel technology with an LCD IPS screen instead of the AMOLED screen seeen on its premium siblings.

But also bear in mind that phones in mid-range cadre also pack AMOLED display even at lower price.

On the front is a 6.15-inch 1080 X 2312 Full HD resolution display with a delicate Dewdrop notch, greeted with minimal bezels and TÜV Rheinland Eye Comfort Certification, designed to aid viewing experience.

The display also comes with a 415 ppi density, occupying 90% screen-to-body ratio, 19.5:9 aspect ratio similar to it’s 2019 model.

At same slim and portable dimensions and 159 g which is a lighter than Huawei P30 and can be handled comfortably with one hand.

There’s an additional Breathing Crystal colourway to the Peacock Blue, Midnight Black, Pearl White coloration.


The camera spec sheet is pretty much the same with the 2019 edition. The only difference here is an upgrade in the front shooter.

Huawei P30 Lite New Edition is furnished with tri-lens rear camera headlined with 48MP AI wide angle camera (supporting 22 AI Categories) uses pixel-binning’ to give a more detailed 12MP shot.

Accompanied by 120° Ultra Wide Angle 8MP Lens and a 2MP Bokeh depth Lens.

The camera system is packs an LED flash and AI scene recognition technology for both front and rears. The both cameras support 2K video recording and HDR, 3D Panorama mode for photos.

The front camera is bumped to 32MP AI camera (supporting more than 8 AI categories in real-time) instead of 24MP on the 2019 Edition.

Hardware and Software

The device is manned by HiSilicon Kirin 710 chipset, instead of the Kirin 980, on it elder siblings. It SOC is still an octa-core chip, but with lower clock speeds and Mali-G51 MP4 for graphics.

There’s also a revolutionary graphic processing technology facilitated by GPU Turbo technology 2.0 for smoother and faster performance.

The New Edition feature UFS 2.1 storage which is a faster storage than the eMMC 5.1 storage on P30 Lite, Samsung Galaxy A51 and Google Pixel 3a at similar price points.

The P30 Lite New Edition got a bumped up 6GB RAM and 256GB of storage rather than the 4GB, 128GB on the 2019 Lite model plus up to 1TB memory storage via shared card slot.


The device comes with a shared SIM lot with network capped at 4G LTE, GPS and dual WiFi for connectivity, 3.5 mm headjack, USB Type-C (2.0) for charging and data transfer, Bluetooth 4.2 for data transfer, and interestingly, an NFC for mobile payment and one-touch pairing support was added to the mix.


Huawei P30 Lite New Edition is powered by the same 3340mAh power pack with a Middling power. It comes with 9V2A Quick Charge to refill your tank to 100% in about about 105 mintues. There’s no wireless or reverse charging suport.

The Huawei P30 Lite New Edition is priced at £299 / $389.

In other climes the 2020 Edition cost about 147,000 Naira in Nigeria, 2256 Ghc in Ghana and 42342 Ksh in Kenya.
