Google has put his heart in the ring with it’s flagship fourth generation of Pixel smartphones, Google Pixel 4. Other series include Pixel 4a, and Pixel 4 XL.

The device packs smooth display, top performance, compact design
and excellent camera.

Design and Display

The chassis is redesigned to delivered a smartphone that looks a bit more contemporary than it has done in the past.

The build of Google Pixel 4 comprises of Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on the front and rear, and a metal frame binding both glasses together.

The smartphone is available in 3 colour variants. The Just Black got a glossy fingerprint surface while Clearly White and Oh So Orange variant feature a rather nice matt finish on the back.

The rear feature a squared camera bump similar to what we saw on iPhone 11. The only disparity here is that the Google pixel cameras are a bit more flushed and less bumpy.

This bump encase two cameras and an LED flash. Apart from the camera bump, is a big “G”, which is the brand logo.

On the front is a flat display with no curved edges showcasing a 5.7-inch Full HD+ P-OLED screen. It ditched 18:9 on its predecessors for 19:9 aspect ratio.

With a dimension of 147.1 x 68.8 x 8.2 mm, weighing 162g, it fits comfortably into your pocket.

The key feature of the display, is however it 90 Hz refresh rate saddled with a resolution of 1080 x 2280 pixels and a density 444 PPI.

Other feature includes, face unlock, HDR10, IP68 certification for Water and Dust Proof but no fingerprint scanner.

The Camera

The most anticipated upgrade in every Google Pixel smartphone is it’s cameras. This is due to the fact that over the years Google has carved a niche for itself in the are of its photography.

It pixels are designed to deliver detailed imagery. The smartphone is Google’s first handset with dual cameras.

Google decided to opt for a telephoto sensor instead of a wide-angle for it second shooter.

The dual-camera system on the rear feature a 12MP main camera joined by a 16MP telephoto camera.

The rear camera setup can capture 2160p, 1080p and 720p videos at 60fps, 240fps, and 960fps respectively while photos can be shot using HDR and panorama mode.

There’s a reason Google Pixel 4 has a big forehead. The company packed in an array of sensors that help in swift facial recognition.

Upfront lies the big forehead of Google pixel 4 which houses an 8MP selfie camera capable of shooting 1080 videos while photos can be shot in HDR.

Hardware and Software

The hardware specs on the Google Pixel 4 is one found on flagship devices.

The Google Pixel packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 which is a top performer but one who have excepted the best of best hardware spec the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ considering its pedigree.

It’s graphics processor unit which is manned by Adreno 640, together with the chipset ensure seamless performance.

Google Pixel 4 smartphone runs on stock Android user interface on top of Android 10 operating system.


Google ditched 4GB RAM it used in it predecessor, Google pixel 3, and opt for a 6GB with 64GB storage which is woefully small considering Google has withdrawn the unlimited storage perk for uploading photos and video in the cloud uncompressed. Or opt for 128GB storage option which cost more. It should be noted that microSD slot for additional storage.


The Google Pixel 4 features a USB Type C (3.1) port, NFC, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0 and like it’s predecessor, it doesn’t offer an headphone jack rather it makes use USB-C headphones.

Sadly, it only support band 7 of Nigerian LTE band, which implies Nigerians will only be able to use MTN 4G sim on the Google Pixel 4.


Without mincing words, the Achilles heel of the smartphone is it appalling battery life. Imagine having a 2,800 mAh non removable battery with a 90 Hz display?
The battery is supported by an 18W fast charge and also wireless charging.

Google Pixel 4 Price and Availability

The price of Google Pixel 4 is about $799 for the base variant (6GB/6GB) which in Nigeria it’s about 288,000 Naira. While the max out variant (6GB/128GB) goes for $899 (324,988 Naira).
