Doogee save it’s best for the last with the release of it’s flagship model of 2020, Doogee S96 Pro and also doubles as the world’s first infrared night vision rugged phone that runs on Android 10.

The unique selling point of this rugged handset is the night vision camera based on the Sony IMX350 sensor chip, with four LED lights and four infrared lights.

This night vision sensor is entirely different from the heat-seeking FLIR technology found on Blackview BV9900 Pro and the thermal imaging camera on Ulefone Armor 9 and Doogee claims it can clearly capture anything, even in total darkness.

It rugged smartphone comes with exciting specs marred with it’s mediocre HD display.

Design and Display

The Doogee S96 Pro comes with the generic design for rugged phones with Soft TPU and aluminium alloy reinforced polycarbonate material to provide 360º durability and ruggednesss.

The body of the phone is built with more than 50 percent metal and the position of the camera is completely protected by metal materials as well, thus creating a truly sturdy and powerful fighter.

It’s tough credentials include IP68 / IP69K MIL-STD-810G Rating for dust, water resistant for immersion under water to a maximum depth of 1.5m for 30minute, drop-proof for 1.8m height on a hard surface, advance sealing technology and the screen is scratch-resistant screen with Corning Gorilla Glass.

Due to it’s structure, components and metal frame the phone can withstand extreme temperature of -55°C to 70°C (which is themed, the equilibrium between ice and fire)

On the rear panel, is a circular camera module housing four cameras, while the outer circle bears dual LED flashes and they are both made of metal materials

Below this camera module, are some symbols and inscription that describe some of its features while on the bottom is a metal plate with Doogee branding on it.

The front is equipped with AI superior view of 6.22-inch IPS LCD water-drop display, with wide color gamut and 16.7 million composite color shades in its display, protected by Corning gorilla glass Anti-fingerprint coating.

The screen offers a 1000:1 contrast offering a resolution of 720 x 1520 pixels, which is not up to a Full HD resolution with 19:9 aspect ratio and screen density of 270 PPI.

With it’s dynamic pressure sensing technology, a slight fingerprint press which is located on the right side unlock your phone at a response speed of 0.19 seconds.

There’s a convenient custom key for quick access to screenshots, flashlight, recording, underwater photography and SOS on the left side.

Users will settle for three color variants which are Fire orange, Army Greeen and Mineral black.

The Cameras

Rugged smartphones aren’t carved out for best camera specs but they try to offer substantial camera hardware.

As earlier mentioned, it comes with an AI powered quad rear camera and the star of the show is the night vision camera.

The cameras include a Samsung Samsung S5KGM1SP03-FGX9 48MP AI main camera, integrated with 3D HDR technology can take ultra-high resolution clear and detailed photos.

Supporting cameras include an 8MP wide angle camera with 130° field of view, 2MP macro camera to capture close objects from 4cm and lastly Sony IMX350 20MP night vision camera with an ultra-light sensitive sensor.

There’s an underwater photography mode that helps you capture colorful aqua life in up to 5 meters water depth as well HDR, Panoroma and 4k video recording.

Upfront we have a single Samsung 16MP AI front snapper, which Doogee claims will capture natural and clear selfies, 1080p video recording and face unlock.

Hardware and Software

The hardware is headed by a gaming-centric MediaTek G90 Octa-core processor paired with Mali-G76 3EEMC4 graphics unit to ensure a lag-free display during gameplay.

Other handset manned by this chipset include Infinix Zero 8i, Realme 6, Realme 6s, Infinix Zero 8, and Xiaomi Note 8 Pro.

The Doogee S96 Pro boots on its interface on top Android 10 operating system out of box.

Storage

An 8GB RAM to ensure smooth running of your device as well as handles multi-tasking and game with 128GB ROM Samsung UFS memory to keep memories alive and supports up to 256GB expandable storage.

Battery

The Doogee S96 Pro is fueled by a gargantuan 6350mAh battery, which Doogee says will last up to two days with 24W fast charging support and 10W wireless charging.

Connectivity

The Doogee S96 pro features NFC + Google Pay for wireless payment, four satellite navigation system GLONASS-Galileo-BeiDou, USB Type-C port, FM radio, Bluetooth 5.0, WiFi dual band, dual SIM and 4G connectivity.

The price of Doogee S96 Pro starts around $299.99 / 114,296.19 Nigerian Naira but you can get it for $239.99 / 91,498.06 Nigerian Naira instead if you pre-order at the Singles day – Chinese own version of Black Friday (a.k.a 11.11) and this offer ends on December 11.

The $299.99 price concerts to 32,685 Kenyan Shilling and 1,749 Ghanaian Cedi.
